MONTICITO — Tony Morris is beginning his second year of a two-year term as president of Montecito Rotary Club as the service organization marks a milestone.

This year, the club celebrates its 70th anniversary developing projects and delivering service to the Montecito community while creating lasting friendships and having some fun along the way.

Morris says he loves the area and its people, and is excited to do what he can to make it an even better place through his role in Rotary. He believes that working in service together we can make our world a better place.

Joining Morris on the board are President-Elect Kim Stone, Secretary Roger Davis and Treasurer Kurt Koenig. Taro Usami is director of membership; Bernadette Bagley, director of member communications; Cathy Cash, director of club service; Stone, director of community service; Harlan Green, director of global service; Sese Ntem, director of vocational service, and Bruce McRoy is the Rotary Club of Montecito Foundation president.

From volunteering at the Montecito Fire Department’s annual July 4th pancake breakfast and continuing its tradition of supporting Santa Barbara City College students with career and vocational scholarships to its annual foundation community grant awards, Montecito Rotary Club lives up to its motto of being “people of action.” Members are business and professional leaders with high ethical standards who give back to the community through fellowship and service.

Morris is an accomplished communications professional, author and outdoors aficionado who leads The Rona Barrett Foundation as executive director. He previously served as director of community outreach and alliances for the foundation, based in Santa Ynez. The nonprofit provides housing and wellness services to help seniors live high-quality lives, regardless of their incomes.

Morris is a lifetime learner whose passion to speak to people, verbally and in written form, began early in life. By the time he was a teenager, Morris was writing a weekly column that appeared in five community newspapers in his home state of Alabama.

A journalism major, Morris graduated from Troy University and headed into the world of corporate communications, eventually holding senior management positions with Fortune 500 companies including MCI Telecommunications, The Coca-Cola Company and Brown-Forman.

He is also on the board of directors for the Montecito Trails Foundation, which ensures wide access to and protection of recreation areas in Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria.

Morris also offers psychic-medium intuitive consultations, working with people to gain clarity, direction, and a deeper spirituality. He’s in the process of writing his first book, “Little Red Wagon,” which details his own spiritual journey.

The Rotary Club of Montecito was founded in 1953 as a way for area residents to engage in service and create fellowship. It meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at noon at the Music Academy of the West at 1070 Fairway Road in Montecito. For more information, or to join, email Morris at tony@tony-morris.com.
