OXNARD — Teatro de las Américas announces this exciting workshop:
“Science and Art of Dealing with Lights I”
This workshop is for directors, producers, high school teachers, tech kids, photographers, actors, students. It is particularly helpful for “talking to light designers.”
The workshop is taught by Holly Sherman, Master of Arts from CSUN. Worked at Magic Mountain, Kleigl lighting in NY, taught at Grand Valley State college in Michigan, toured in Pennsylvania, New Orleans, Chicago and Los Angeles with Penn Players, United Stage, and The Givingtree. Retired in 2013 From 37 years with Strand Lighting. Venues worldwide from Disney Concert Hall to Qatar, Cirq du Soliel’s in Vegas to Macau. Carnegie Hall, churches, restaurants, high school theatres and….. Oxnard College Performing Arts Center!!!
WHERE?
The workshop will take place at the NEMA (Neighbors Embracing Multicultural Arts) studio located at 1230 Saviers Road, Unit R, in Oxnard, near 5-points. Please park at the adjoining shopping center next to CVS Pharmacy at Five Points, then call Margaret at 805-231-0127 and she will walk you to the nearby Studio.
WHEN?
The workshop runs from1:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Saturday August 6.
WHAT?
This intensive workshop will provide an overview of light design. Holly will poll the participants, and then schedule two more workshops: One to cover scenic painting, fabric and makeup with lighting, and then one with operating control systems and designing for an actual show.
COME PREPARED
For the August 6 workshop, Bring:
- a flashlight,
- a small notebook,
- a digital camera or cellphone to each session.
There is homework prior to the first meeting: in addition to the above, bring an interesting “object” that has texture, volume and color. (yes, black and white are colors for this application. )
Your homework prior to the first meeting is to take pictures of this interesting “object” in:
- bright light (sun or artificial)
- deep shade or at night.
- one light source or many. And
- only the shadow or reflections.
- Bring a print or two or “in camera”.
Cost: $50.00 for this first workshop (There are a limited number of “$10.00 scholarships” available of Oxnard College students).
