In this dark family comedy, Andy, Mark and Ronnie Simonson gather at their parents’ home in the Southern California retirement community of Friendly Valley, while their mother, Ruth, lays dying in the next room. Their father, Jack, just wants to provide his wife with a peaceful, respectful passing.
But emotions run high, as Andy has recently left his wife and kids for a torrid new relationship, and Ronnie arrives with his new wife, Carmen, who may or may not be aware of a disturbing episode from her husband’s past.
Over the course of the night of Ruth’s death (Act 1) and the post-funeral gathering (Act 2), wounds are opened, secrets are revealed and characters are forced to confront realities they have long chosen not to see.
