SCIART honors Rachel Resnik Miles with highest recognition
CAMARILLO — Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIART) has announced Rachel Resnik Miles as the recipient of the 2022 Medici Award, the highest recognition presented by SCIART. Each year SCIART’s board of directors selects an honoree whose support has been exceptional and transformative for the organization. This year’s award will be presented as part of the annual Art à la Mode gala, Oct. 8, at the Los Posas Country Club, Camarillo. Art à la Mode celebrates the creative community of Studio Channel Islands and those who champion the arts in our county. Sponsorship opportunities, program tributes and ticket information are available at https://studiochannelislands.org/gala/
A SCIART volunteer for over a decade, Resnik Mile’s support for SCIART includes serving on the board of directors for three years and as chairperson in 2016. She has taken a lead role in planning and producing one of SCIART’s most popular annual fundraising events, Collector’s Choice, which brings together artists and community in support of SCIART’s mission.
Honored in 2021 as a Dona by the Pleasant Valley Historical Society for her community contributions, Resnik Miles also currently serves on the scholarship reading committee of the Ventura County Community Foundation and as a volunteer for Camarillo Hospice. She is a member of the Camarillo AAUW and was a charter member of the Simi Valley Sunset Rotary.
An alumnus of the University of California, Santa Barbara and Rio Mesa High School, Resnik Miles helped create the Santa Barbara Probation Office’s community work project program that connects both juvenile and adult offenders with community service opportunities. A fifth-generation Camarillo resident, Resnik Miles lives with her husband Howard, a retired stage and special effects technician.
“On behalf of the Ventura County Community Foundation board of directors, we are delighted to join Studio Channel Islands in celebrating Rachel Resnik Miles’s dedicated service to our local art community. Rachel’s devotion to promoting and preserving the arts in Ventura County has made a huge difference, and she is a true inspiration,” said Vanessa Bechtel, president and CEO.
“Rachel has been a fantastic ambassador for SCIART in the community, always promoting the studios and artists,” said Sean Leonard, president and CEO, S.L. Leonard & Associates, Inc. “When I served with Rachel on the board of directors, Rachel was always diligent, thoughtful and passionate. She never sought the limelight, and I am delighted she is now being recognized.”
