CAMARILLO — The Social Justice Fund for Ventura County, CSU Channel Islands, California Lutheran University, U.C. Santa Barbara and the Center for Nonprofit Leadership will present “Social Justice in Practice: Putting It All Together” convening and Workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at the Ventura County Community Foundation Nonprofit Center, 4001 Mission Oaks Blvd., Camarillo, the organizations reported in a media release.
The event is a follow-up to the 100% Summit held last year.
We think this event responds to some of the aspirations expressed at that conference, the organization reported.
Social change often appears mysterious and elusive. Why do some social justice efforts produce limited results, while others seem widly successful even as they may reproduce some of the past? Are the activities of social change uniquely difficult to initate, coordinate, or sustain? Or is there a secret recipe for social change that we have yet to find? Philosophy and the history of successful social movements tell us that there is no secret ingredient that will guarantee lasting social change. Rather successful social transformation depends on carefully reading the elements that make up the walls of any given status quo. Successful readings open the way to creative efforts that may soften the mortar of those walls, allowing movement in the processes of social transformation.
In this community event, we will gather to review the tools amd insights common to all forms of meaningful social change. Our consideration of these tools and principles of social justice practice will open more widely the door to imaging and initiating long-term projects of social transformation here in Ventura County for the benefit of all. This event continues the organizing effort begun at the first “100% Summit” held in January 2012.
