SANTA MARIA — Santa Maria High School student Isaac Ochoa is one of 34,000 students nationwide who received a letter of commendation for their exceptional academic promise from the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

“Isaac is a quiet, respectful, and extremely hardworking young man who currently ranks number three in our senior class of 539 students,’’ said Saint School Counselor Donna Trombetta.

Ochoa is a member of Future Business Leaders of America and plans to pursue a master’s degree in business. His top three university choices that he will be applying to are UC Santa Cruz in California, Temple University in Philadelphia, and Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
