Two Santa Maria public high schools will celebrate academic excellence during separate drive-thru events

SANTA MARIA — Two Santa Maria public high schools will celebrate academic excellence during separate drive-thru events today (Thursday, May 21).

Righetti High School’s senior awards are scheduled to be given out from 10 a.m. to noon in the bus-loading zone. About 190 students are involved, according to Daniel Solis, College and Career Specialist.

Santa Maria High School’s Senior Honors Night will be held in the staff parking lot next to Thornburg Street. A-L: 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and M-Z: 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. About 150 Saints are involved, according to Assistant Principal Monica Pallan.

The top awards include Academic Excellence (cord), SMJUHSD Academic Scholar (blue stole), California Scholarship Federation (CSF) (yellow cord + pin) and California Seal of Biliteracy (tri-color cord + seal on the diploma) and others.

“We are proud of these academic scholars who worked so hard for so many years and look forward to hearing about their future accomplishments,’’ said Warrior Principal Karen Rotondi.

Additionally, RHS will be streaming a virtual ceremony to recognize all students who received awards. (academic, scholarships, athletics, etc.) The video will be released on the school website at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, May 26.
