SANTA MARIA — Sixteen Santa Maria High School students and their families were honored during the “Saint of the Season” celebration Wednesday.

Certificated and classified staff nominated the Saints for exceeding expectations in class, improving in one or more areas, being involved in multiple activities outside the classroom, scoring well on the CFA and having positive personalities and a love for education.

The noon luncheon featured pizza, cake, special certificates, goodie bags, a yearbook section and names and photos in a hallway display, according to assistant principal Leslie Martinez. Students also picked honoree teachers, she added.

“There is always more room for positive recognition here,’’ Martinez said.

Four students were selected from each grade level. The event is in its third year and students are chosen in fall, winter and spring.

The 9th graders included Caleb Hoyos, Miguel Perez-Hernandez, Alyssa Vazquez Valenzuela and Alexa Hernandez-Bazan.

The 10th graders included Norah Reyes, Alexis Gonzaga Solano, Maria Reyes-Palestino and Melinda Reyes Lucas.

The 11th graders included Jasmine Garcia Hernandez, Alexis Garcia Quintanar, Marisol Palafox Rodriguez and Michael Hoyos.

The 12th graders included Madilyn Arguijo, Mia Prado-Chavez, Dominick Martinez and Cristian Ramirez Morales.
