SANTA PAULA — Visitors will have two opportunities to win free works of art by attending two upcoming artist demonstrations at the Santa Paula Art Museum. On Thursday, September 26, 2019, artist Jackie Blue will perform a demonstration starting at 2:00pm. Blue will demonstrate the pastel process by painting one of her favorite locations, the headlands at Point Dume in Malibu. Artist Virginia Kamhi will lead a second pastel demonstration at the Museum on Thursday, October 3, 2019, starting at 2:00pm. Kamhi will paint a seascape. Both demonstrations are free and open to the public. At the conclusion of both demonstrations, the finished painting will be raffled off to one lucky member of the audience, with each attendee receiving a free raffle ticket. The demonstrations are being held in concert with the Santa Paula Art Museum’s current exhibition “On Location in the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore,” in which Blue and Kamhi are two of thirty-four artists featured.

Jackie Blue is a graduate of Cal State Northridge with a degree in Art History. She started drawing and painting while watching Jon Gnagy’s TV show “You Are an Artist” back in the 50s and is still at it. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and her work has been selected and juried into many national and international shows. She serves on the board of the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore and paints en plein air and in her Malibu studio. A fourth generation Californian, Virginia Kamhi was born into a family of many artists. Her grand uncle was Santa Paula artist Robert Percy Smith, and her roots take her back to Santa Paula, where her grandparents and great grandparents lived in “The Oaks” neighborhood. California’s landscapes and seascapes are embedded in her soul, and she seeks to capture the rhythms and poetry of the land and sea in her pastel paintings. Kamhi studied art at Cuesta College and Moorpark College and graduated from UCSB.

The Santa Paula Art Museum occupies two historic buildings located at 117 N 10th Street and 123 N 10th Street in downtown Santa Paula. The Museum features rotating exhibitions of vintage and contemporary art, creative classes for children and adults, family-friendly events, live musical performances, a gift shop, and more. Regular museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
