Through Sept. 17 — Lumina Alliance to Carry Forward ‘Dancing With Our Stars’ Event

The Friends of the Atascadero Library are passing on the event after 12 years of successful fundraising.

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — After 12 years, The Friends of the Atascadero Library are passing the torch on the long-running Dancing With Our Stars fundraising event to Lumina Alliance, a local non-profit that supports survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence. Dancing with Our Stars will have its final run as a Friends of the Atascadero Library event this week, September 14-17, 2022, at the Atascadero Lake Pavilion. The event will be raising money for Atascadero Performing Arts Center Committee (APACC), Friends of the Atascadero Library, Friends of the Charles Paddock Zoo, North County Economic Foundation/ Leadership North County, Templeton Community Library Association (TCLA), and the Sheriff’s Advisory Board/ Atascadero K9 Foundation.

The transition to Lumina Alliance is set to take 2-years, with a preview of the new concept being planned for the Lumina Nights Gala 2023, on March 18 at Rava Winery in Paso Robles. The new concept, Lumina Nights Introduces

Dancing With Our Stars, will be presented in full-form March 14-16, 2024, at the Atascadero Lake Pavilion. “We are honored to have this opportunity to build on the legacy of this successful event that Jeannie Malik and the Friends of the Atascadero Library have created. We plan to continue to bring Dancing With Our Stars to San Luis Obispo County for years to come,” said Jennifer Adams, CEO of Lumina Alliance as well as participant in Dancing with Our Stars since 2018.

“Lumina Alliance was a perfect fit to take over Dancing With Our Stars,” said Jeannie Malik, Event Producer. “They are familiar with the concept, having been a beneficiary. We also value their important work in empowering victims of sexual and intimate partner violence to heal from trauma and transform their lives.”

Dancing With Our Stars is set to begin on September 14th and ticket sales have ended for 2022. Lumina Alliance is looking forward to forging new traditions with Dancing With Our Stars and continuing to support survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence, as we have since 1976.
