New Board members appointed

Newly elected trustees Ellen Stoddard and Dr. Charlotte Gullap-Moore (pictured in center, left to right) were sworn into the SBCC Board of Trustees by their retiring predecessors, Dr. Peter Haslund and Kate Parker, at the Dec. 15 meeting of the Board. Each will serve a four-year term. Additionally, Jonathan Abboud (left) and Dr. Anna Everett (right) were elected president and vice president of the Board, respectively.

COVID-19 updates

Effective January 1, 2023, the COVID-19 vaccination requirement has been removed for students enrolling in Spring 2023 classes and for all employees (except where required by federal and state law, public health agencies, or appropriate governing organizations for specific programs and activities). Longtime staff members hired as new deans

Michael Medel and Dr. Beth Taylor Schott, both longtime classified staff members who were promoted to management roles on campus, were recently hired as deans: Dr. Taylor Schott as the new Dean of Distance Education, Library, Faculty Resource Center and Learning Resource Center; Medel as the new Dean of Business, Scheinfeld Center, Career Center and Media Arts. Margaret Prothero recognized as equity-focused student support leader

English professor and Guided Pathways faculty coordinator Margaret Prothero was recently recognized by College Futures Foundation (led by former CA Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley), as an “adaptive and equity-focused holistic student support leader.” All together, 46 community college leaders were recognized across the state for their incredible commitment to students.

Two years after transferring from SBCC to Cal State University Northridge where he received a degree in documentary production, Will Hahn landed a great position on the New York Jets multimedia team. Read the Noozhawk story here.

Illustrations by SBCC art students Morgan Liu and Ida Saldivar are featured in the “Celebrating Exemplary Student Support Leaders report” of the College Futures Foundation (see above profile on Margaret Prothero for more). Read the report and see page 87 for profiles on the talented art students.
