Online tool launched to help students find the resources, services and programs they need to succeed

SBCC offers many excellent resources, services and programs to help students stay on track and feel connected, engaged and valued. The challenge has always been how best to connect students with those resources when they are needed. January saw the launching of an online tool called the “Student Resource Finder.” The motto of the tool is “We’re here to help you!”
Nine needs categories can be found in the Student Resource Finder:
1. Basic Needs Supports
2. Campus Life
3. Educational Supports
4. Financial Resources
5. Maps, Parking, and Transportation
6. Physical Fitness
7. Safety and/or Crisis Supports
8. Technology Resources
9. Wellness, Mental Health, and Medical Supports
Each category contains additional checkbox filters and sub-categories for further delineation. Programs and services listed show a short description, and link directly to the webpage of that program/service/resource. Additionally, a list of 27 student population groups provides another way to search for specific programs. A live chat is included on all pages of the Student Resource Finder, staffed by Enrollment Services representatives. After hours, the chat becomes an email form that is answered the next day.
If you know any SBCC students, share the link with them…they will thank you for it!
The SBCC Foundation hosts ‘SBCC at a Crossroads: Enrollment Trends and Student Futures’
The SBCC Foundation issues this invitation to the community:
Please join us on Wednesday, March 17, at 4:00 p.m. for “SBCC at a Crossroads,” a Campus Conversation with Paloma Arnold, Dean of Student Affairs; Michael Medel, Director, Admissions & Records; and Dr. Pamela Ralston, Executive Vice President, Educational Programs. The panelists will discuss SBCC’s long history of innovation in student support programs, financial assistance, and counseling, and what the college is planning to encourage students to return to their higher education paths.

Community college enrollment has quickly become one of most talked about areas of concern in the COVID-19 era. From all-time high enrollments in the wake of the Great Recession just over a decade ago, overall enrollments had already begun a modest decline prior to the pandemic. The disruptions of the past year, however, have had a dramatic effect. At SBCC, enrollment for the Spring 2020 semester is down 15% from a year ago, and for certain populations, the decline is twice that.

Storytime Project is up and running!

At a time when so many children in our community remain at home, the Sigma Chi Eta Communication Honor Society created the Storytime Project, providing a way to share the love of reading with the younger members of our SBCC family and bring some joy to those who are working so hard managing the demands of school, work and family right now. Throughout the semester, they will be releasing fun and culturally inclusive stories read by our own SBCC faculty, staff and students. Children and parents who tune in for SBCC Storytime are eligible to enter to win a copy of some of the wonderful books they will be sharing this semester.
