Santa Paula Art Museum — You Should Probably Write This Down

Art creates community.
Composite by Artists’ Barn by Cornelis Botke, Jessie Arms Botke, Robert Clunie, Julon Moser, and Douglas Shively, 1940, oil on board. Collection of the Santa Paula Art Museum.
September is National Literacy Month and we’ve got books on the brain here at the Santa Paula Art Museum. You’re definitely going to want to book it to our next Art To-Go Bag giveaway featuring lots of fun art and bookmaking activities for the kids (see below). And be sure to read on for information about our upcoming, outdoor art classes. Speaking of reading, a few years ago we came across an article in the old Santa Paula Chronicle about the making of a very special painting, and we’d love to tell you the whole story.
Free Art To-Go Bags Giveaway
Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.
The Museum will be giving away free Art To-Go Bags on Saturday, September 19, at 10:00 a.m. The bags will be available via a drive-thru only pick up in the parking lot behind the Museum (while supplies last – limit 5 bags per family). For this month’s bag, the Museum partnered with Blanchard Community Library to celebrate National Literacy Month with some extra special art projects. Inside the bag kids will find a mix of art-making materials, including colorful scrapbook paper, markers, tissue paper, a personal writing journal, and more. Children will be able to explore all of the elements of art through hands-on projects like bookbinding, printmaking, flip books, and creative writing.
