OCTOBER ART CLASSES
In addition to our one-time workshops and recurring classes, the Museum is offering two in-depth art series in October – one for adults, and one for kids! Pre-registration is required for all classes, and classes fill quickly.
Series: Still Life in Oils
(Ages 16+)
Four sessions held on four consecutive Thursdays:
Thursday, October 4, from 6pm to 9pm; Thursday, October 11, from 6pm to 9pm; Thursday, October 18, from 6pm to 9pm; and Thursday, October 25, from 6pm to 9pm.
Ever wanted to try your hand at oil painting? The Museum’s upcoming Still Life in Oils course is the perfect opportunity! Seasoned artist Ray Harris will lead this in-depth, four-part painting workshop. Learn essential techniques for working in oils, practice color theory, composition and proportions, and how to finish a painting like a pro. More experienced artists will enjoy learning new skills and perspectives from Harris, a 20-year veteran of Walt Disney Feature Animation. This series is for everyone age 16 and over. The class must be taken as a four-part series. All skill levels welcome and all supplies are provided.
Series: Kids Printmaking Techniques (Ages 10-13)
Four sessions held on four consecutive Wednesdays:
Wednesday, October 3, from 3:30pm to 5pm; Wednesday, October 10, from 3:30pm to 5pm; Wednesday, October 17, from 3:30pm to 5pm; and Wednesday, October 24, from 3:30pm to 5pm.
Let us teach your kid how to print like a pro! Children age 10 to 13 will learn the history, theory, tools, and techniques of three basic printing processes: linocuts, silkscreens and monotypes. Students will make original, reusable print forms and practice printmaking, all under the enthusiastic guidance of artist Lisa Ann Mahony. This course is for kids age 10 to 13. The class must be taken as a four-part series. All skill levels welcome and all supplies are provided.
Personal Sculpture

Collage Essentials

Artist Karen Browdy will share the essential skills and tools needed to build a meaningful practice in collage. All skill levels welcome. The cost of the class is $35.
Historic Photography Demonstration
Sat., October 27,
10am to 1pm
Witness historic photo processes as you follow photographer Luther Gerlach and his mammoth-plate vintage camera to nearby locations. The cost of the demo is $50.
OCTOBER EVENTS
The Land of Light:
Art, Science, and Play
Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 5pm to 9pm
Admission is free for everyone
Now in its second year, The Land of Light invites visitors to see and experience art in a whole new way! The event is inspired by artists of all ages and is designed to engage the community through interactive art installations including lighting effects, visual film graphics, and displays of science and technology. At sunset, a special “lighting ceremony” will activate monumental light and video projections, illuminating the variety of exhibitions on display. Exhibits range from two-dimensional works to three-dimensional sculptures, “art cars,” and more. Indoor and outdoor spaces will feature maker stations where guests are encouraged to interact with and add to the various artworks and displays. The event will also include a live DJ and performances by aerial and glow dancers. Admission is free for everyone.

Be the first to see the Santa Paula Art Museum’s newest original exhibition,The Wall, when it premieres on Saturday, October 20, from 4pm to 6pm. The group exhibition explores the nature of boundaries – lines that define, surround, protect, divide, include and exclude – whether real or imagined. In responding to the theme of the show, the featured artists have created a thought-provoking collection of artworks that is simultaneously literal and metaphorical, social and personal, political and spiritual.
