Last week was the kind of week that really makes our museum mantra – “art creates community” – ring true. Our amazing docents/best friends turned their monthly meeting into an outdoor potluck luncheon where they discussed upcoming event duties. On Saturday evening, we were thrilled to welcome a great crowd to the premiere of our three new exhibitions: Face of California, Celebrating Teaching Artists, and works created by local elementary school students through our Artist-in-Residence program. The Museum’s Artist-in-Residence program places a teaching artist (the incredible Jessica Diaz) in Grace Thille Elementary School for eight weeks each year, during which time she introduces 60 third-grade students to a new skill each week including painting, sketching, coloring, animation, and character design.
