Artist Talk: Traveling with Paints, The Joy of Painting in Foreign Lands

Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 2:00pm at the Santa Paula Art Museum. Admission to the talk is included with regular museum admission, which is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for students and museum members.

SANTA PAULA – On Saturday, June 16, Pasadena plein air artist Laurie Hendricks will host an artist talk at the Santa Paula Art Museum. Hendricks has been traveling abroad to paint and teach for over 15 years. During her presentation, Hendricks will share the joys of seeing foreign lands through the eyes of a painter and the excitement of coming home with treasured “studies” from which to create larger studio works. While the thought of traveling with paints may be daunting for some, Hendricks will share her tips and tricks for traveling light with oil paints, watercolors and sketchbooks in tow. The talk begins at 2:00 p.m. Admission to the event is included with regular museum admission, which is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for students and museum members.

Originally from the Bay Area, Laurie Hendricks first moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and after some success in that field, turned her focus to painting full time. From New England roots, she is a direct descendant of painter John Trumbull, also known as “The Painter of the American Revolution” for his works like “The Signing of the Declaration of Independence.” Since earning her M.F.A. at the San Francisco Art Institute, she has continued to study painting, drawing and art history, viewing art as lifelong learning. Currently, Hendricks owns her own gallery in Pasadena. In addition to her European travels, she participates in local plein air events, and teaches classes in her studio.

The Santa Paula Art Museum is located at 117 N 10th Street in historic downtown Santa Paula.
