New Student Exhibition
This week we installed a new student exhibition in our student gallery entitled Expressions Through Contours and Color featuring students from Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai.
Welcome Jessica!
We are thrilled to announce that Jessica Diaz has joined our staff as Assistant Museum Educator. Jessica started with us as an intern in early 2017 and loves working with young artists.
Making Alliances
We met with reps from the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore who have partnered with us for an exhibit opening in July 2019. We have a feeling you’re going to love their show!
Teen Fest Fun
On Friday, we joined the City of Santa Paula Parks and Recreation Department at their “Teen Fest” to celebrate the grand opening of the new Santa Paula Teen Center at Las Piedras Park.
Another Class Sells Out
On Saturday, Ojai artist Gail Hercher taught another sold out bookmaking class inside the Cole Creativity Center. Hercher will also offer her popular monotype printmaking class in March.

I Am Me: Artists’ Self-Portraits
Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm
Who are you? That’s the question that artists were asked to answer in the Santa Paula Art Museum’s upcoming exhibition entitled I Am Me: Artists’ Self-Portraits. The same question will be asked of museum visitors as they view the 39 self-portraits featured in the exhibit and participate in interactive art-making activities that will accompany the professional works on display. I Am Me will open with a premiere party on Saturday, February 2, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Admission to the premiere is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

Free Family Day
Sunday, February 3, 2019, 12:00pm to 3:00pm
Join us for Free Family Day at the Santa Paula Art Museum on the first Sunday of every month from 12:00pm to 3:00pm! In addition to enjoying our current exhibitions, you’ll experience hands-on art activities for the whole family, with local artists sharing new ideas and projects each month. Be creative, have fun, and make a masterpiece while you make memories with friends and family. On February 3, our guest teaching artist will be Karen Browdy, who will share her passion for collage with fun Valentine art activities. Families will have access to lots of free materials for free-form collage making.Admission is free for everyone.

The Magic of Mandalas (Ages 16+)
Saturday, February 9, 2019, from 10:00am to 1:00pm
Harness the power, and experience the mesmerizing beauty of mandalas alongside art therapist Lynne Okun. Lynne will share the magic of mandalas, from their history and meaning, to strategies and techniques of creating your own personal mandala. Having achieved an understanding of the geometry and sacred symbolism that mandalas incorporate, each student will leave with at least one mandala and the potential for endless mandala-making. All skill levels are welcome. Pre-registration is required. The cost of this class is $40.00 per person.

Find a little romance in your February as we explore the late 15th century tapestry, “The Unicorn in Captivity.” We will recreate the fantasy, grace, and delicacy of the famed textile using watercolors. Join us, relax, and get creative among friends! “Women Create” is an ongoing series exclusively for women age 16 and over. The class features a new art project, muse, and discussion each month. All skill levels are welcome. Pre-registration is required. The cost of this class is $35.00 per person.
