After Hours with the Artist: Santa Paula Sojournwith Shannon Celia
Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Break out the party balloons because we’re getting ready to celebrate Shannon Celia’s solo exhibition, Santa Paula Sojourn. While the exhibit was installed five months ago, it has yet to be seen in person by the public. On Saturday, October 24, the Museum will host a series of free, after hours appointments with the artist between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Each half hour, five visitors will get to spend 30 minutes viewing the show with the artist in tow. It’s a new (and socially distant) way to experience an exhibit premiere! Once the 30-minute tour has finished, guests will be able to enjoy the Museum’s other offerings and listen to live music by classical guitarist Hope Mueller.
Art To-Go Bag Giveaway
Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.
The Museum will be giving away free Art To-Go Bags on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. The bags will be available via a drive-thru only pick up in the parking lot behind the Santa Paula Art Museum starting at 10:00 a.m. (while supplies last – limit 5 bags per family).
This month’s bag celebrates Dia de los Muertos with fun and meaningful projects. Kids will be encouraged to explore Day of the Dead traditions through art with projects like family history zines, clay sugar skull pendants, decorative paper calaveras, and mini-ofrendas. Plus, we’ll share a link to a video tutorial by our good friend Deanna, the artist behind Fancy Pantz Face and Body Art, who will show you how to do your own Dia de los Muertos face paint!
The Museum’s Art To-Go Bags are made possible by sponsors Brianne McGrath, Kai and John Blanchard, Fran and Jim Christiansen, Patti and Pete Fallini, Fancy Pantz Face and Body Art, Kathy Good, Laurence Holmer, Willa and Earl McPhail, Michael Pulliam, Santa Paula VFW Post #2043, and Dorcas Thille.
“After We Got Together” by Duane Dammeyer, alabaster on Belgian limestone, 20 x 15.5 x 8 inches. Available for purchase.

There’s still time to support our 2020 Sustainability Campaign and have your donation matched. Longtime museum supporter Lee Cole will match every donation we receive this fall up to $250,000.00! Your donation will support the Museum’s educational programs, now both virtual and on site, which serve thousands of children, families, and adults every year.
