Last Chance to Purchase Raffle Tickets

You could win one of two paintings by historic Santa Paula artists Cornelis Botke and Jessie Arms Botke! Raffle tickets can be purchased online through Sunday, August 28. Two winners will be chosen and notified Monday, August 29.

Fun fact: With the help of one of our docents, we just learned a lot more about the raffle painting by Cornelis Botke pictured above. It depicts Eliseo School, a one-room schoolhouse built in 1895 to serve families living in Santa Paula’s Wheeler Canyon. (The Botkes’ son, Bill, would have attended the school when the family arrived in Santa Paula in 1927.) This scene would have been very familiar to Cornelis and Jessie, as their home/studio was less than two miles away. Eliseo School closed in the 1940s and was later converted to a residence, making it one of the few surviving 19th-century one-room schoolhouses in Ventura County.
