Santa Paula Art Museum — Let’s Stay Inspired While We All Stay Home

Art projects and resources to inspire you and your family
Create a Found Object Color Wheel
Create a found object color wheel to learn about primary and secondary colors during an in-home scavenger hunt! We love YouTube’s Mrs. K and her kid-centered approach and even her meditation time at the end. Bigger kids can help the little ones for a great learning activity.
Art from Nature
Combine your fresh-air outings with a nature walk and art project! In spring, nature is exploding with beautiful elements just waiting to become your artistic materials.
Nature Crowns
Nature Superhero Masks
Magic Nature Wands
Free kids’ online art classes:
Deep Space Sparkle is a wonderful site designed by veteran (and local) art teacher Patty Palmer with dozens of free art lessons. To celebrate our longer spring days, we especially love her Happy Sun Project.
Pressed Flower Project for Adults
Take a basket or bag on your next walk and collect colorful flowers and leaves to create a beautiful pressed flower project like the one demonstrated by YouTube’s Do It, Gurl.
ArtSPARK at Home
Our museum educators have designed a step-by-step art project for you to do at home. Share your story with us and you could win a gift basket of art supplies and goodies worth $50.00!
Community Creativity Challenge
As we all stay close to home, we encourage you to fully embrace being an “artist-in-residence.” That’s why during the month of April, we’re giving our community a new creative challenge every day. (We promise they’re fun and easy!) You can follow along on our website and even share your creations on our community creativity board for your chance to win a gift basket of art supplies and goodies!
Challenge #1: Blackout Poetry
Challenge #2: Recreate a Work of Art
Virtual Book Club
The Santa Paula Art Museum will be hosting a virtual book club! Join us weekly as we read and discuss Old in Art School – A Memoir of Starting Over by Nell Painter. Our first virtual “Meet and Greet” will be April 13, 2020. Virtual discussion begins April 20, 2020.
#MuseumFromHome
Santa Paula by Cornelis Botke, oil on canvas, Collection of the City of Santa Paula.
While the Museum remains closed, we still hope our exhibits bring some beauty and joy to your days! There’s a small exhibit currently hanging on the second floor of the Museum that we titled, quite simply, “We Love Santa Paula.” It’s comprised of paintings and photographs of Santa Paula from the Museum’s permanent art collection. We wanted to share some of those images here and say, we love Santa Paula and Ventura County! Click here to view the slideshow.
