Premiere Party: California Art Club’s “Plein Air Visions”

We didn’t quite plan for the entire Museum to be filled with art by members of the California Art Club, but we’re not mad now that it has happened! On Saturday, May 10, join us for the premiere of “Plein Air Visions,” featuring two dozen current CAC members. You’ll also enjoy CAC Signature Artist Anne Ward’s solo exhibition, “Painted Seasons,” and a mini-exhibit of works by historic CAC members Jessie Arms Botke and Cornelis Botke.

The California Art Club is one of the oldest, largest, and most active art organizations in the country. Founded in Los Angeles in 1909 by a small group of California Impressionist painters, the CAC now has members worldwide. “Plein Air Visions” celebrates the preeminence of the plein air painting technique in capturing the light and colors of California’s coastal and urban landscape. All of the artworks will be available for purchase.

“Plein Air Visions” will be on view from May 10, 2025, to September 7, 2025.

Currently featured artist Anne Ward was recently elected to the rank of Signature Artist within the California Art Club, which places her in the top tier of the CAC’s artist membership! Meet Anne and take in her popular solo exhibition, “Painted Seasons,” during the California Art Club premiere on May 10.

Historic Santa Paula artists and CAC members Jessie Arms Botke (1883-1971) and Cornelis Botke (1887-1954) are the current stars of our permanent collection gallery. The Botkes settled in Santa Paula in 1929 and exhibited with the California Art Club between 1927 and 1930. Their currently exhibited works celebrate the Museum’s 2025 Visionary Award Honoree and longtime collection supporter and board member, David Schwabauer.

Painting Camps/Classes

It’s never too late or too early to begin your artistic journey! Beginners are welcome, and all materials are provided in all our classes and camps. SPAM members receive 10% off. Youth scholarships are available for families enrolled in the state’s EBT or WIC programs.

Save the date for Kids’ Art Fest on Sunday, June 1! This free, outdoor event offers playful art activities for kids of all ages, including a community mosaic and a community mural, plus face painting, bubble-making, folklórico and mariachi performances, and much more.
