SANTA MARIA — National School Counseling and Guidance Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), was celebrated from Feb. 1-5 at the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District.
This week focused public attention on the unique contributions of school counselors and guidance & support professionals within U.S. school systems and highlights the tremendous impact they can have in helping students achieve success and plan for a career.
Each day at SMHS, a different grade-level school counseling team was featured. The recognition included pictures of school counselors and a series of answers to meaningful questions including “what inspires you?”, “I’m all in for students because?” and fun comments such as “If you could have one superpower what would it be?’’, “favorite food?”, etc.
The SMJUHSD Board of Education recently passed a resolution recognizing school counselors and guidance professionals from SMHS, PVHS, RHS, DHS and other educational partners.
“They are a critical asset at this time in supporting our students and parents during the pandemic,’’ said Dr. Jack Garvin, school board president.
