SANTA MARIA — The SMHS FFA held a drive-through meeting this week where they received free pumpkins and prepackaged popcorn in addition to hosting a virtual meeting on their Canvas accounts.
Traditionally, the FFA hosted a monthly chapter meeting and the officer team provided updates including a secretary report, treasurer report, new business and old business, according to agriculture teacher Shannon Powell. Afterward, they would hold a social event with food and games, she added.
During the week leading up to the meeting, FFA students participated in several contests on social media. They was an agriculture photo contest and a virtual scarecrow contest. Awards were given during the drive-through event.
“I was so excited to be able to be a part of this event and to see all of our members happy and healthy was just great,’’ said Senior Chapter President Rebekah Blackmon. “We have worked hard to get to this point and it definitely paid off.’’
The Patch and other local producers grew the pumpkins, Powell said.
