Santa Barbara is marching with over 60 other sister marches across California on October 2nd to defend Reproductive Rights.
SANTA BARBARA — With SB8, Texas banned all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, and the US Supreme Court chose not to intervene — effectively allowing Texas to sidestep the precedent of Roe v. Wade. Our community will not be silent. The Supreme Court will reconvene on October 4th, and two days before that thousands of women, men, and allies will be marching throughout California, including in Santa Barbara!
WHY. The US Supreme Court failed to defend our fundamental rights. They chose to be silent in Texas, but they cannot continue to turn a blind eye as more states ignore reproductive health care rights and follow suit.
“59% majority of U.S. adults say abortion should be legal in all or most cases” (source: PewResearch)
We know the majority of Americans say abortion should be legal, yet we are bearing witness to states like Texas ignoring nearly 50 years of precedent and stripping people of their constitutional right to access abortions. Making our voices heard, loud and clear, is now more critical than ever! Our Central Coast communities are joining millions of Americans to voice the truth that generations of women will be adversely affected by lack of abortion access if SCOTUS does not uphold this fundamental right. Particularly harmed will bethose communities most affected by class, race, gender, ability, sexual orientation and documentation status.
Our mission is to ensure that the country and SCOTUS understand the importance of Roe v. Wade and that abortion is health care and a fundamental human right.
We are proud to join millions of people in over 60 marches scheduled throughout California. We invite the communities on the Santa Barbara South Coast to join us!
WHEN. Saturday, October 2nd at Noon
