Santa Barbara County First District Supervisor Das Williams — Tenant Protection Ordinance coming to Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors and more news, events

County to Consider Tenant Protection Ordinance

On Tuesday, June 27th the Board of Supervisors will consider an ordinance to further strengthen the County’s tenant protection ordinance.

This proposal will make important changes to extend access to tenant protections to more renters, and close loopholes being exploited to evict people.

Right now, more tenants than ever are in danger. Rents have skyrocketed, and our seniors, workforce, and children are being priced out and pushed out of town. It is my hope that these protections will make the playing field more level for renters in the unincorporated areas of the County, and provide more stability for tenants in the unincorporated areas of the County.

Labor and Environmental Justice Policy Adopted

As your representative on Central Coast Community Energy Policy Board (3CE), I recently voted to pass a ground-breaking labor and environmental justice policy that will have big impacts. 3CE, your electricity provider, has to date invested over $2 billion into renewable energy generation projects like wind, solar, and geothermal, with more projects on the way. This new policy prioritizes projects that include good paying union jobs for local workers, avoid environmentally sensitive habitat, and invest in local disadvantaged communities. We are hopeful our approach will catch on and be adopted by electricity providers across California.
