Santa Barbara County First District Supervisor Das Williams — Breaking New Ground on Emergency Improvements

Breaking New Ground on Emergency Improvements

Last week, we broke ground on the new Regional Fire Communications Center and Emergency Operations Center expansion. This is an important step to creating a single dispatch center for calls for emergency medical services and fire response. This new space will serve all parts of the County, helping us get the closest fire or emergency resource to you, regardless of borders or which government that resource comes from.

Are you prepared for an emergency?

As we have all come to know over the last few years, emergencies can occur with little or no prior warning. The County is conducting a survey to assess how prepared residents are for an emergency. The purpose of the survey is to understand constraints and behavior during emergencies such as wildfires, floods, chemical spills, etc. The survey will take less than five minutes to complete, and public participation will significantly contribute to local emergency preparedness. Hurry! The survey closes Friday, May 12.

Highway 101/Olive Mill Roundabout Construction Update

The Olive Mill Roundabout project will open part of the new roadway beginning the night of May 11th, and crews will continue their work on the northwest and northeast corners near N. Jameson Ln, Olive Mill Rd, and Coast Village Rd. Please expect traffic pattern changes (see map).

Over the next few weeks, crews will plant vegetation in the Highway 101 median in Carpinteria between Linden and Bailard Aveneus. Please expect daytime lane closures of the carpool lanes.

Additionally, a variety of on/off ramps will continue to be closed in between Carpinteria Ave and Olive Mill Rd. Please note: consecutive ramps in the same direction will not be closed at the same time (unless where noted) to allow drivers to use a ramp before or after a closure. Participate in new Climate Initiative

The County is making it easier for local residents to take steps to address the climate crisis by launching the Climate Resilient Santa Barbara County campaign. I hear all the time from folks who want to take action to save our environment but aren’t always sure how. It is challenging to research electric vehicle or heat pump technologies and incentives. Climate Resilient Santa Barbara County provides you with a blueprint for how to live a more climate-resilient life.
