Santa Barbara City College is pleased to announce new leaders in some of our Educational Programs. As a result of various retirements, the College has been recruiting for several new staff and faculty positions as well as leadership within Educational Programs. The SBCC Board of Trustees will approve their appointments at their next regular meeting. We are thrilled to welcome them!

Arturo Rodriguez, Dean of Educational Programs
Mr. Rodriguez was selected as the newest Dean of Educational Programs, Student Affairs. He holds a Master of Arts in Education from San Jose State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Cal Poly State University, and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics. After teaching math for seven years, he moved into administrative roles serving the majority of time as Assistant Principal, most recently with Oxnard Unified High School District. As a longtime local resident and educator in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, Arturo brings an understanding of our students, our community, and education to this position.
“It is most definitely an honor and privilege to being selected as the new Dean of Educational Programs, Student Affairs,” Rodriguez said. “I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and excited to join the SBCC family. My goal is to build relationships and trust necessary to support students and staff. I will work to ensure that SBCC remains the number one community college in the nation.”

Dr. Jens-Uwe Kuhn, Dean of Educational Programs
Dr. Kuhn holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC-Santa Barbara, a Master’s in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University, and a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from University of Konstanz, Germany. Jens has been with SBCC since Fall 2008 serving as a faculty member in the Chemistry Department, a valued Department Chair for Chemistry, and most recently as the Project Director of the STEM Transfer Program. In addition, he has worked as a Co-Principal Investigator on collaborations with UCSB, Allan Hancock College, Oxnard College, and Ventura College.
“I am very excited about moving into this position and being able to have an impact on students’ success from a different level,” Kuhn said. “I am looking forward to working with the other Deans and Administrators on continuing to support faculty and staff in providing an inspiring learning environment for students. I believe that using data-driven approaches and working together as faculty, staff, and administrators will allow us to continue to move ahead in addressing some of the challenges we are facing.”
Paloma Arnold, Director of EOPS/CARE
Ms. Arnold holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from Antioch University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in History from UCLA. Paloma has been employed in a variety of roles at SBCC since her graduation from UCLA. Her nearly 20-year career at SBCC began as a Student Program Advisor (SPA) in Financial Aid, but quickly transitioned to EOPS after a year. She clearly has found a home (and a passion) in EOPS where she has spent the last 13 years. After receiving her MA, Paloma moved in to the role as Associate Professor/Academic Counselor, EOPS, CARE, and Financial Aid where she has done an outstanding job.“I am honored to have been selected as the next Director of the EOPS/CARE program at Santa Barbara City College,” Arnold said. “EOPS has a proud tradition here at SBCC, and I am excited for the opportunity to continue this tradition of excellence. I look forward to supporting our EOPS/CARE students through their educational journey at SBCC!”

Lyndsay Maas, Vice President of Business Services
Santa Barbara City College announced its selection of Lyndsay Mass as Vice President of Business Services. A proud SBCC alum, Maas has been employed with the college since 2013, where she served as Controller, and most recently, Interim Vice President of Business Services. In her official appointment, Mass will oversee management of campus Fiscal Services, Security, Campus Store, Food Services, Administrative Services, and Facilities departments.“Santa Barbara has been my home for the past 20 years,” said Maas. “ It was at SBCC where I took my first accounting and business courses and was inspired by my Instructors to become an accountant. Thanks to SBCC I made accounting my career and continued my education to earn my Masters in Business Administration. Since joining the team at SBCC as Controller, I have become a huge proponent of the California Community College educational system and the mission SBCC fills within our community. I am honored to have been selected as the first female Vice President of Business Services at SBCC, where I will work tirelessly to serve our students and community.”In her prior position as Controller at SBCC, Maas reported directly to the Vice President of Business Services as the college’s top managerial and financial accountant. Her responsibilities included managing college’s Fiscal Services department, comprised of Accounting, Student Finance, and Payroll.Educationally, Maas has come full-circle, beginning her academic career as an SBCC student in 1999, and receiving foundational education in accounting and business. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management at Antioch University, Santa Barbara, in 2004, and a Master of Business Administration at California State University Channel Islands in 2006.“Lyndsay brings a great range of experience and is an excellent presenter and educator,” said SBCC Superintendent/President Anthony Beebe. “She has been a constant and generous source of clear information, is a team player, and is continuously trying to figure out new ways to best serve Business Services customers at the college and our students.”Maas’ career highlights also include U.S. Corporate Controller/Treasurer at Imerys Filtration Minerals, Inc. in Lompoc; and Operations Analyst at Santa Barbara Alpha Strategies.In her spare time Maas volunteers with the Adult Volunteer Soccer League (AVSL), where she integrated a website, payment registration and management system, and social media for the league. Her volunteer involvement has been crucial to the organization’s growth from four small teams to eight large teams.
Rocco Constantino, Director of Athletics
Rocco Constantino has been selected as the new Athletic Director at Santa Barbara City College. He was the Athletic Director at New Providence High in New Jersey for the last two years and spent more than a decade as Assistant Athletic Director at Bloomfield College, an NCAA Div. 2 school in New Jersey. Constantino’s first day at SBCC will be July 3.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the family at SBCC,” Constantino said. “I hope to be a visible presence on campus and in the community and would like to communicate to our student-athletes, their families and the departments within the college that academics will always come first and we will represent Santa Barbara City College in the classroom, on the athletic fields and in the community with dignity and integrity.”
Mr. Constantino holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in English/Writing. He has been serving most recently as the Director of Athletics at New Providence High School (New Jersey) where they have 23 sports in their athletics department. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Director of Athletics for nine years at Bloomfield College in New Jersey. Rocco has been the Head Softball Coach for 11 years at Bloomfield and the Head Women’s Soccer Coach for three years. In 2015, Rocco became the third softball coach in CACC Division II era history to reach 200 career wins. He was selected as Coach of Year in 2009 for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the East Coast Athletic Conference.
Constantino is a published author and former featured columnist at Bleacher Report. He wrote “50 Moments That Defined Major League Baseball” and it was published in May of 2016.
Constantino will take over for Ellen O’Connor, who served as SBCC’s Interim Athletic Director for the 2016-17 academic year when the Vaqueros won five WSC championships, two individual State titles and three women’s teams reached the State Final Four. SBCC graduated 94 student-athletes who earned 107 degrees with 96% of these student-athletes transferring to four year institutions.
