Registration, sponsorships now open for MICOP’S ‘Night in Oaxaca’ on Aug. 9

OXNARD — On Friday, Aug. 9, Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) will welcome back its annual flagship fundraising event Night in Oaxaca at the Olivas Adobe Historic Park. We invite local agencies, county leaders, and supporters to join us. Over the years, Night in Oaxaca has become the largest fundraising event that helps MICOP continue its mission of supporting, organizing, and empowering the Indigenous migrant community on California’s Central Coast.

This year’s theme, “Nuestra Voz, Nuestro Poder,” or “Our Voice, Our Power,” was chosen specifically by MICOP’s staff. It reflects MICOP’s firm commitment to upholding and amplifying the voices of our community and benefiting from their collective power for positive change. Let’s celebrate the vibrant Indigenous culture and ensure our community’s voice is heard!

For the first time in our event history, Maria Reyna, “Soprano Mixe,” will share a special performance. Maria Reyna is an extraordinary and talented Soprano, a worthy ambassador “in her own right” from one of the most ancient, melodious, and representative of the “other Mexico”: the ancestral Mexico – the Mixe of Oaxaca.

Sponsorships and participation during Night in Oaxaca will support efforts to provide vital resources to our community, including case management, system navigation, community organizing, and policy advocacy.

The evening welcomes a diverse group of supporters, local and state elected officials, and Indigenous community leaders across Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties who will enjoy an evening filled with colorful cultural dances, authentic, traditional Oaxacan cuisine, and the opportunity to peruse and support select vendors in our indigenous artisanal market.

To reserve tickets or inquire about sponsorship opportunities, kindly contact MICOP’s Fund Development Director at erika.rivera@mixteco.org.  Our tickets are available now at the affordable price of $80 per ticket or $150 for two, and we offer various sponsorship levels.

August 9th is a night to celebrate the spirit of unity, diversity, and empowerment of the indigenous migrant community in California’s Central Coast. Let us unite and make a lasting impact during Night in Oaxaca!
