SANTA MARIA — Pioneer Valley High School Student Council members recently received the 2018-2019 Outstanding Leadership Program Award after showing they know more than a thing or two about leadership standards.
The honor from the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) was announced at the California Association of Directors of Activities Convention last weekend. More than 2,000 activity directors attended.
The Panthers wrote and submitted a self-study that gathered evidence supporting California Leadership Standards, which measures school culture, inclusiveness, community service, communication skills and event coordination and planning.
CASL receives about 1,500 applications per year, and 50 of them are selected.
“Student Council teaches us so much about dedication and being a good leader,’’ said ASB President Jennifer Ruiz. “It helps us learn skills that will help us in college.’’
Activity Director Lisa Walters praised the support of Principal Shanda Herrera, Assistant Principal Dr. Paul Collier and the staff for their endless support.
