SANTA MARIA — Pioneer Valley High School student tutor Mae Lampitoc recently received a healthy dose of recognition for her unselfish deeds.
Mae is being featured on the school website.
It’s Mae to the academic rescue when it comes to Algebra, Geometry, English, A.P. English, World and US History and French.
“I like tutoring because it’s an opportunity that allows me to help other students with their own personal improvements,’’ said Mae, a senior. “I’ve struggled a lot throughout my high school career, and I personally understand that some of my fellow classmates need help with their schoolwork.’’
When the second-year peer tutor is not helping others, she enjoys bullet journaling, baking and Netflix (especially Avatar: The Last Airbender) and duties as the school’s marching band color guard captain, according to 11th Grade School Counselor and Peer Tutoring Coordinator Heidi Neal.
Mae plans to study marine biology and attend UC Santa Barbara, Neal added.
SMJUHSD School Board President Amy Lopez described Mae’s work ethic as “outstanding”.
“We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young lady,’’ Lopez added. “I have no doubt it will be exciting and rewarding.’’
