SANTA MARIA — Personal experiences from Vietnam veterans will take center stage inside the Pioneer Valley High School Performing Arts Center on May 21.
More than 150 juniors who are taking U.S. History classes are expected to hear the presentation from VC9 Vietnam Veterans Group, according to Panther Social Science Teacher and Avid Advisor Stacie Martinez.
“It’s just so eye opening for the kids to hear their stories,’’ Martinez added. “It’s important that the students hear from the Vets themselves about the incredible sacrifices they made for this nation. Many of these brave men suffer from PTSD and they rarely speak about their Vietnam experiences with their loved ones, however they open up to the students. They tell me that it’s therapeutic and helps them in the healing process. Every time I have them come speak, there is a line out the door with students waiting to shake their hands.’’
