CENTRAL COAST — People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) recently hosted the 2024 Builder Games. Presented by Mechanics Bank, with a special sponsorship from Bank of the Sierra for Resident Success, eight teams competed in a series of fun building-related challenges to transform a standard 4’x 4’ playhouse into a home for their imagination.Winning this year’s title of ‘Builder Games Champion’ was RRM Design Group for their incredible Monster Truck. Wowing the audience and receiving the People’s Choice award for their Undersea World playhouse was Architects FORA, and sharing the Judge’s Choice award was Arris Studio Architects for their Medieval Castle and Architects FORA. Additional teams competing included 1st Capital Bank, Community West Bank, Omni Design Incorporated, Blosser Urban Garden, and People’s Self-Help Housing.

“Once again, the teams showed tremendous creativity in this year’s builds! From a groovy 80’s diner to a two-story medieval fortress, they pulled out all the stops.” said Ken Trigueiro, PSHH CEO & President. “It was an excellent day seeing them compete, with spectators cheering from the sidelines.”

Beginning with a blueprint relay race, followed by a giant Jenga puzzle, and then digging through an oversized sand pit, the teams embarked on a speed-build of their playhouse. Complete with turrets, soda fountains, organic gardens, and more, each competitor turned their concepts into a kid-pleasing fantasy. Teams were judged on creativity, ingenuity, and execution of the build.

Later in the event, emceed by KSBY’s Anchor Neil Hebert, the unique playhouses were sold off by renowned auctioneer, Todd Ventura to an excited crowd of invited guests.

Sponsorships, team entries, donations, gifts, and bids all contributed to this year’s record-breaking grand total. Netting $100,000 in support of critical programs for PSHH residents, the final tally was reached with a generous finishing gift from the organization’s dedicated Board of Directors.
