People’s Self-Help Housing breaks ground on new affordable housing in Santa Ynez Valley

Buellton Garden Apartments to provide
89 new units for the City of Buellton
SANTA BARBARA — Last week, People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) broke ground on its newest affordable housing: Buellton Garden Apartments.

Located at 10 & 12 McMurray Road in Buellton, near essential services, this new development is comprised of 89 units.  Including one-, two-, and three-bedroom units for low-income households, it features a welcoming community room, well-resourced learning center, and onsite supportive services for residents.

“We are thrilled to bring more affordable housing to the community members of the Santa Ynez Valley with our first ever project in Buellton,” said Ken Trigueiro, PSHH CEO & President. “We look forward to watching this site develop and come to life over the next couple years. It’s been a long time in the making, and we are grateful to officially have shovels in the ground.”

Attending the sun-filled event were dignitaries throughout the Santa Ynez Valley to include elected officials from City of Buellton and Solvang and representatives from the office of Senator Monique Limón, community partners, and PSHH project staff.

“I know I’m speaking on behalf of the Senator when I say thank you to People’s Self-Help Housing well as City and County and all the folks and the team that takes to make this happen,” said Benjamin Peterson, office of Senator Monique Limón. “The state increasingly recognizes the need we have for affordable housing, and for housing in general. And for her part, she’s been proud to vote for State budgets that allocate funding as it’s available to the Housing and Community Development department for projects such as this.”

Buellton Garden Apartments is coming together through a collaborative effort with the City of Buellton and numerous community partners. Funding support was provided by California Community Reinvestment Corporation, California Debt Limit Allocation Committee, Wells Fargo, Housing Trust Fund of Santa Barbara County, County of Santa Barbara, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Housing and Community Development, and California Tax Credit Allocation Committee. The site was designed by Ravatt, Albrecht & Associates, Inc., with engineering from DPSI, Inc.
