OXNARD — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme has revamped its Summer Day Camp program to be more engaging, exciting, and positive for youth in the area, the organization reported recently in a media release.
Youth are invited to participate in age-specific programming during 10 weeks of themed camps, which include National Geographic, Weird Science, Adventure week, Around the World, Super Soakers, Back the Badge, and more. During each week, youth will engage in curriculum about the theme, participate in multiple fieldtrips and interact with guest speakers who are sure to get them wanting more.
It is important for the Boys and Girls Clubs to engage the community’s young people in positive activities, both after school and during school breaks, the organization reported. The Summer Day Camp Program gives youth a healthy and positive place to spend time during the summer months. Each age group will participate in unique fieldtrips ranging from community resources – such as local police and fire stations, Oxnard airport, local beaches and hiking trails, the Navy Sea Bee Museum, and a sail on Channel Islands Harbor’s own 137-foot Tall Ship the Bill of Rights – to regional attractions, such as the L.A.’s California Science Center and Griffith Observatory, Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Santa Barbara Zoo, a water park and a camping trip for the older youth.
