Oxnard College to present ‘The Latino Thought Maker Series’ program on Aug. 27 featuring Carlos Portugal, creator of the HULU original series ‘East Los High’

OXNARD COLLEGE — Oxnard College will present “The Latino Thought Maker Series” free program featuring Carlos Portugal, creator of the HULU original series “East Los High” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the Oxnard College Performing Arts Center Auditorium, 4000 S. Rose Ave., Oxnard.

Hosted by Rick Najera, the event will feature an intimate conversation with Portugal, creator, producer and director of “East Los High.” This HULU original is the first ever English-language teen drama starring an all-Latino cast and is a Hulu original, an online video streaming network, organizers reported in a media release. The event will feature special guests Vannessa Vasquez And Andera Sixtos from East Los High.

According to a new Nielsen report, Latinos watch more hours of content online and on their mobile phones than any other demographic group. East Los High is a perfect case study of this phenomenon.

A Hollywood Reporter headline proclaims: “How Hulu lured Latinos to East Los High” with a subtitle that says, “The streaming service’s racy soap, designed to curb teen pregnancy, uses ‘salacious’ storylines to lure kids to the message.”
