Oxnard Art Beat set for Sept. 10

The Downtown Oxnard Art Beat will close out the summer by featuring a variety of art, music, dancing and dining opportunities from 5 p.m. to closing time on Saturday, Sept. 10 at various venues in downtown Oxnard, organizers reported in a media release.

September features some extra special events. Don’t miss Bubble-palooza- a bubble-blowing flash mob in Plaza Park. Join in on such celebrations as Sugarbeets’ “End of Summer Block Party” or Society805’s fabulous party to launch its new Arts & Culture section. The Carnegie Art Museum invites you to the opening reception for its three Fall shows. Pistol Productions and Cafe on A are bringing cutting-edge group shows to Art Beat. Start your evening with dinner or have a grab a cocktail with karaoke. See a play, catch a movie, or take walk through Heritage Square- all on the Art Beat.

Cafe on A & Sicks Three present an open theme exhibit celebrating the fine artists in Ventura County and beyond. Featuring the best art works of: Jorge Becerra, Evan Ames, Lauren Mosinka, Nelson Cooper, Daniel Perez, Edmund Lara, Jennifer Korsen, Sofia Robles, Bebe Gallardo, Leo Jurado, Paty Diaz, Sal Rodriguez, Carolina Alcala, Jake Prendez, Angee Lujan, John Charlebois, Ray Cirerol, Maria Aguilar, Stacy Gingrich, Diana Levin, Veronica Pantoja and many more. ALERT ON B GUERRILLA GALLERY   —  6 to 9 p.m., 405 So. B St, Suite 3, Society805 Art Party starts at 7 p.m.

“Markings II”  Solo Show by Erik ReeL

The online magazine, Society805 is throwing a party to launch its new Arts & Culture Section and introduce Eril ReeL as the new editor.  It’s a red carpet affair complete with DJ and a solo show of Erik’s work.  “Markings II” is the next progression of his painting series of work representing human markings and how we construct meanings and implicit symbols even out of the marks that contain lexicographic meaning or intent.  Meet the artist and editor and enjoy a party.

CARNEGIE ART MUSEUM — 5 to 8 p.m., 424 So. C St.

Opening Reception for the 3 Fall Exhibits: “The Brothers Anderson: Benjamin Anderson-Portraits/ Sean Anderson-Influential Pigments” Recent paintings by co-curators/owners of Anderson Art Collective, Carpinteria. Benjamin, recognized for portraiture by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, shares recent portrait commissions and Sean continues his series connecting mass marketing tools with America and its 3rd World counterparts.

“In Focus: The Permanent Collection”  A major sampling of California Modernism, California Impressionism and California Latino Art from the permanent collection.

“APPetite for Digital Art”  iPad art creations by Carnegie workshop participants: Lois Freeman, Shelly Lazarus, Penny Mulloy, Daniel Reder, Suzanne Schechter and Anne Ward

Exhibition: The Art of Denis O’Leary

Local school teacher and elected official Denis O’Leary showcases his beautiful cubist portraits of Latin American historical figures. His engaging and original oil paintings typically reflect daily life and Latino subjects.

 

DOWNTOWN CENTER FOR THE ARTS — 5 to 9 p.m., 329 N. Fifth St.

Exhibition: Color, Color, Color

Gregg Arbeene showcases his whimsical, colorful, abstract images and Shelly Wendland shares her rich and colorful collection of selected oils.

 

ELITE THEATER — 8 to 10 p.m., 730 So. B St.

Performance: “As it is in Heaven”

Runs from Aug 12 to Sept 18th

Catch the latest Elite show! A religious community is changed when a non-believer has an ecstatic experience. The 1830’s Shaker society of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky comes to life on stage. Acapella hymns punctuate the scenes and the end explodes with joyful Shaker singing and ecstatic dance. Reservations highly recommended.

Exhibition: The Vanishing of a People

Painter Augustin Bravo began this collection over two decades ago when he sensed that the traditions of his Mexican village were beginning to disappear. In lush oils, he reveres the characters and traditions of his native land.
