OXNARD – The Channel Islands Maritime Museum will host an opening reception for its new exhibition, Designs from the Deep: The Architecture of the Shell, from 5-7 p.m., Oct. 27.
The exhibit features close to a thousand stunning shells from around the world, selected from the private collection of local collector Catherine Wiggins. Visitors can explore the science of shells, the tiny architects that reside within, and the differences that make each shell so unique and spectacular. The event is open to the public; members are free, non-members are $7, seniors/students/active military are $5, children (ages 6-17) are $3 and children under 6 are free.
The Channel Islands Maritime Museum is open daily from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. and is located in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor at 3900 Bluefin Circle. Explore galleries full of rare and beautiful maritime paintings dating back to the 1600’s, more than sixty world-class models of historic ships, rotating thematic fine arts exhibitions, and interactive exhibits that encourage visitors to expand their horizons about everything maritime. Museum entry is $7 adults, $5 seniors/students/active military, $3 children (ages 6-17), and free for members and children under 6.
