OXNARD — As part of the Guest Speaker Series, Oxnard Housing Authority Resident Service Depatment is proud to announce a special book reading and signing event in La Colonia area of Oxnard by award-winning author, Amada Irma Perez.
This special presentation will be take place on Thursday, October 4th, 2018 at Terraza de la Cortes, Community Room located at 201 Carmelita Court in Oxnard, CA 93030 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
This is a FREE community event! Refreshments and appetizers will be made available. Please be sure to arrive early.
Amada Irma Pérez is an award-winning teacher/author. After graduating from Cal Poly, Pomona she taught elementary school, college and university for thirty plus years. She also obtained an M.A. from Cal Lutheran University and presented workshops on language acquisition throughout the United States. She followed her dream to write and publish bilingual children’s books and was surprised that children loved them! Her books include My Very Own Room/Mi propio cuartito (2000), My Diary from Here to There/Mi diario de aquí hasta allá (2002), and Nana’s Big Surprise/Nana ¡Que sorpresa! (2007). They received many awards in children’s literature including the American Library Association’s Pura Belpré Honor Award, and the Tomás Rivera Mexican-American Children’s Book Award. She was commissioned to write Desert Quails Hit Jungle Trails (2010) and A Life of Firsts: The Story of Gloria Molina (2015). She self published, My Handy Writing Book: A New, Fun & Easy Way to Write Stories (2011) followed by the Spanish version in 2015. Amada’s stories are beloved for their humorous details and universal themes. When she’s not writing or teaching at young writers’ camps, she’s learning how to become a better writer at the South Coast Writing Project (SCWriP) or traveling the world presenting her books at conferences, festivals, libraries and schools of all levels. She’s visited six continents and twenty-five states with the hope of bringing more multicultural understanding to the world. She lives with her husband in Ventura, California where she walks and practices speaking Spanish or French with friends or family while she thinks of more stories to publish in the future.”
