The Santa Barbara City College Athletics Department and Our Mesa Neighborhood (OMNI) will be hosting a Fall Fest Trunk or Treat event for children of Santa Barbara and the SBCC community on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019. The event will be held on the Great Meadow on SBCC’s West Campus on Cliff Drive from 5 to 7 p.m.
“As a community college, we feel it is very important to give back to the local community. This has been a fun event for the kids the past two years and it’s fantastic that our student-athletes can benefit from this community service activity,” said Athletic Director Rocco Constantino.
This year, SBCC has partnered with OMNI to expand the event to include live music, food, games and a costume contest.
“I have been so thrilled to work with OMNI as we continue to find ways to make this event more enjoyable for the community,” said Constantino. “OMNI had run a very successful Fall Fest around the same time as our Trunk or Treat event and Teri Jory, the President of OMNI, has been fantastic to work with. We’ve been having conversations for months about this and I’m really excited to see the final product of our work.”
The event is best described as a tailgate party mixed with trick-or-treating and is geared toward kids under the age of 13. Cars will be set up in the parking lot, decorated in Halloween themes. Kids can then go trick-or-treating at each car, much the same way they would go trick-or-treating door-to-door.
Admission to the event and all accompanying activities will be free of charge. Parking will be available at the Cliff Drive entrance on West Campus and in Lot C below the lawn.
“We really believe that we have a great platform for community outreach as an athletics department,” said Constantino. “Our goal is to provide families with a memorable experience while also teaching our student-athletes the value of community service.”
