SANTA BARBARA — The First United Methodist Church holds its 150th Anniversary Celebration at the church located on the corner of Anapamu and Garden Streets the weekend of October 21 & 22, 2017. The theme for this anniversary year is “Planted in faith, rooted in love, growing in grace!”
On Saturday, October 21, a Celebration Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with musical selections and storytelling from different periods in the church’s history. Former members and pastors, civic and religious leaders, will participate in this special celebration, which will be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
On Sunday, October 22, a 150th Anniversary Worship Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Bishop Grant Hagiya, the Resident Bishop of the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church, will preach the morning message.
We will dedicate new liturgical banners and hear a choral piece commissioned for the occasion. A catered reception of Italian cuisine will follow the service.
The First United Methodist Church is pleased to offer this historic celebration of our congregation’s 150 years of vital community presence in Santa Barbara, highlighting the many ways our church has strengthened and supported the people of this beautiful locale through ministries of worship, education, outreach, missions and caring.
