Exciting Courses This Fall!

We here at OC LIVE just wanted to let you know that Oxnard College
has some wonderful courses on offer this Fall in the Performing Arts

Mariachi Ensemble –  MUS R126 – CRN 73180

Our first Mariachi Ensemble course, which we’ve tentatively named Mariachi Avenida Rosa, took place this summer and was a great success! We had about 20 students of varying ages and skill levels (including complete beginners!). We had a wonderful time making some great music together and our culminating event was a performance at a Mariachi Showcase at Pacifica High School. After such a successful first term, the course has been added to the Fall schedule on Thursdays from 4-6:50pm. This course is an excellent introduction to the Oxnard College community and a great way to blow off steam and create some beautiful music during the week!

Did you know we have theatre and acting classes at Oxnard College! These courses are a great introduction to screen and stage performing. Both are taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon, so they won’t conflict with your regular schedule and are a great way to participate in our college community. Many of our acting and theatre students perform in our college Student Showcase at the end of the year, which is a phenomenal event to be a part of. Join us!

Recording I: Introduction to Music Technology

This is the course for anyone interested in making beats, using virtual instruments to produce music, DJs, film students, podcasters, and more! This course instructs students in the industry-standard software Pro Tools, it’s like Adobe Photoshop for music! Beyond the simply enjoyment of making music in this fashion, we are now an official Avid Learning Partner, which means we will be able to provide Pro Tools Certification to our students! Students who pass the tests will be able to add Avid Certified Pro Tools User to their resume and have a much better chance getting a job in audio-related fields.

History of Rock
MUS R116 – CRN 73194

We were recently given the opportunity to add a face-to-face section of the History of Rock course on Thursday evenings. They will be taught by our newest adjunct, and director of the Mariachi Ensemble, Jorge Herrera. The course is a great choice for those seeking Humanities credits for transfer, or anyone who loves listening to the Beatles, Madonna, Snoop Dogg, you name it!
