VENTURA COUNTY — With the Nov. 4, 2025 Statewide Special Election quickly approaching, Ventura County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Michelle Ascencion and the Elections team are preparing for the busy final voting days, with Election Day itself expected to be the busiest.
To avoid last-minute voting stress, voters are encouraged to take advantage of early voting opportunities now available. Nine Vote Center sites across Ventura County opened October 25 for in-person voting, late registration, ballot drop-off, and more. Another nine Vote Center locations will open Saturday, November 1.
All Vote Centers are open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily, including weekends, and will be open 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on Election Day. All 40 official ballot drop boxes are also open, and will be locked at 8:00 pm sharp on Election Night.
“People should think of Election Day as the last day to vote, notthe day to vote,” Registrar Ascencion said. “ Early voting days allow you to go in and vote with little to no wait time. Or, you can use your vote by mail ballot and vote early that way. We hope people take advantage of the options available to help fit voting into their busy schedule well before Election Day.”
The Elections Office has been fielding questions from voters since October 6, answering hundreds of calls a day from Ventura County voters with questions or in need of assistance, at both the general line at 805-654-2664 and the Election Hotline at 800-500-3555.

Can I Still Register to Vote?
Eligible residents can still register to vote or update their existing registration all the way up to and on Election Day. Visit any Vote Center to complete a conditional voter registration application and vote on a provisional ballot. The registration and the accompanying ballot will be held aside until the voter’s eligibility is confirmed.
“Late registration, if completed during early voting days, is actually somewhat expedited with more staff available for one-on-one assistance and, in general, a faster turnaround time for registration validation,” Registrar Ascencion said.
How Do I Track My Ballot?
Sign up for BallotTrax for free at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov to receive email, text, or phone notifications when your vote by mail ballot has been received by the Elections Office.
“The earlier you submit your vote by mail ballot during early voting days, the faster you will typically get your BallotTrax confirmation that we’ve received it,” Registrar Ascencion said. “The glut of mail ballots that come in on Election Day causes the notifications to be slower – another reason to get your ballot in early!”
When Does My Vote-by-Mail Ballot Need to Be Received?
Ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day (November 4) and received by the Elections Office no later than November 12.
**Do not mail your ballot on Election Day!** Per the recommendation from the U.S. Postal Service, do not mail your ballot on Election Day, as it may not get postmarked that day. Instead, deposit your ballot before 8:00 pm in one of the County’s 40 official ballot drop boxes or at any of the 18 open Vote Centers. All vote by mail ballots deposited in drop boxes and at Vote Centers will be securely hand-delivered back to the Elections Office that same night.
How do I vote in person on Election Day?
Select a location from the list of Vote Centers at Vote.VenturaCounty.gov. Election Day is usually busiest first thing in the morning and in the late afternoon and evening hours, so if you arrive at a Vote Center somewhere in between, the wait is typically shorter. If you can’t go until the evening, make sure you are in line before 8:00 pm as the line will close at that time.
What if I forget to sign my vote by mail return envelope?
If there are any signature issues – such as a missing or unmatching signature – on a voter’s vote by mail return envelope, the Elections Office will send the voter a letter asking them to cure their signature and verify they are the legal voter.
“Mail ballots submitted early allow more time for the voter to resolve any signature issues so their vote can be counted,” Ascencion said.
“For peace of mind, return your ballot early,” Registrar Ascencion emphasized. “Avoid long lines and last-minute stress by voting early, using a drop box, or mailing your ballot well before Election Day and tracking your ballot.”
