This juried art show will highlight talented student artists of all grades in the Ventura Unified School District.  In total, over 50 works have been selected from hundreds of submitted pieces, including watercolors, photography, acrylic paintings, mixed media, and pencil drawings. Save the Pollinators:
A Youth-Led Environmental Restoration Project ExhibitOpening Reception

The Save the Pollinators Project was developed by Ojai youth to combat the dramatic depopulation of our vital pollinators through a community restoration project. Through photography, music, and art our teens hope to share everything that they learned while working to save the pollinators. Click here to learn more.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold
A surprising history of the 1920s and Prohibition in Ventura County. As population and wealth boomed, creativity flourished – but so did a tide of repression and exclusion. This exhibit tells the local story of the jazz age through our collections and archives.

MVC’s permanent collection, amassed over 100 years, ranges from everyday items belonging to real people who lived and worked in the county, to rarities and precious works of art. Each object has a story to tell, and this exhibit opens the door to those stories.

Always Keep Creating:
The Resiliency of Carol Rosenak
Renowned local artist Carol Rosenak (1925-2002) was known for her still life paintings featuring exquisite textures and intricate details. Spanning over 30 years of her career, this exhibit highlights her early printmaking, still lifes, and the abstract style she adopted later in life.

Ivor Davis: Up Close and Personal with Steve Binder

Steve Binder is paramount in the history of music on television, having directed Elvis Presley’s ’68 Comeback Special, Diana Ross Live in Central Park, and The Star Wars Holiday Special. He’s worked directly with Elvis, Liza Minnelli, and Patti LaBelle. He’s now portrayed in Elvis, directed by Baz Luhrmann.
Ivor Davis will sit down with Steve Binder and take questions from the audience in this special evening. Registered members will be enter a drawing to receive an autographed copy of Steve Binder’s Elvis ’68 Comeback: The Story Behind the Special. Click here to RSVP.
Life Drawing Sessions
Wednesdays:

Join other artists for a series of three open model drawing sessions. Models will be clothed and nude. Note: this is not an instructional class. This is a great opportunity for artists of all skill levels to develop their life drawing skills. 10-35 participants per class. Click here to RSVP.
Part-time Facility Associate
The Museum of Ventura County has an opening for a part time facility position $17 – 19/hr. This position assists the Events/Facility operations of the museum. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks including general maintenance of the museum, cleaning and set up and tear down of the equipment needed for private events, exhibits and meetings. Must have the ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary. A basic knowledge of technology is helpful. If you are interested, please send your resume to: lpynnonen@venturamuseum.org.

The World’s Most Famous Movie Ranch:
The Story of Ray “Crash” Corrigan
and Corriganville
Did you know that Ventura County once hosted its own version of Knott’s Berry Farm? The ranch served as both a popular amusement park and filming location. Owned and run by the colorful stuntman Western actor “Crash” Corrigan, the park offered a generation of Californians Western-theme entertainments until it was sold in the late 1960s. The site is now a public park that includes several hiking trails where numerous Westerns were filmed.

The Water Witch of Simi
Water witching is centuries old. The first written references date to 16th-century Europe. The practice of dowsing was commonplace in the late 1800s in Simi Valley when new settlers needed to find a reliable source of water. Almost everyone gave it a try, but few had Grandpa Stones’ touch.

Echoes of Nature
Exhibition Launch Festival
Saturday, June 4th from 11am–8pm
at Studio Channel Islands
Free
The launch of a month-long celebration of contemporary Chinese art, the program will begin with family workshops, including fan painting, calligraphy, and dance, from 11am to 1pm.  At 1pm, there will be performances of traditional Chinese songs, music, and dance.
The evening will conclude with a performance of Echoes of Nature by Dr. Nan Liu and Dr. Haigiong Deng.

Oxnard Juneteenth

This highly anticipated 31st Annual Juneteenth Celebration, will be in-person and streaming live on Facebook. This event celebrates the 1865 historical Proclamation of Freedom from slavery in Texas. Vintage attire is welcomed and to celebrate this historic occasion. The Buffalo Soldier Mounted Cavalry Unit will also be in attendance and showcasing the American Soldier of that era. The Collected Works of Margaret Garcia

Arte Para la Gente explores artist Margaret Garcia’s vast work that captures and encapsulates the culture, family, and urban life. Over the past four decades, Margaret Garcia has been a leader in the L.A. Chicano Art Movement, championing women, the community, and individuals marginalized by society. Her most recent works, many shown here for the first time, were painted in Ventura County.
