Museum of Ventura County update for May 8 — Free Figure Drawing at the Museum on May 14

On January 24, 2019, the Museum of Ventura County hosted An Evening of Song & Stories with Chris Hillman in support of the exhibit “Chris Hillman: Time Between”. The event sold out in advance, and attendees were treated to over 80 minutes of stories and music, plus an intimate reception in the galleries with Chris Hillman.
Joined by Herb Pederson, Chris Hillman performed music spanning his career and shared stories from his early childhood to the signing of the Byrds thanks to jazz legend Miles Davis.
For the first time, the entire program with Chris Hillman is available to view online! Visit the Museum’s YouTube channel to watch.
An Evening of Song & Stories with Chris Hillman
During one of Chris Hillman’s visits to the Museum, he generously signed copies of his LPs dating back to his time with The Byrds and The Desert Rose Band, as well as his recent recordings.
Sign up for a Museum Associate Membership by Friday, May 21, 2019 at 11:59 p.m., and be entered to win a signed copy of the classic The Desert Rose Band self-titled LP from 1987. This is an original pressing that was donated to the Museum by Chris Hillman, and was un-sealed for Chris to sign.
Once you sign-up for an Associate Membership, email sgordon@venturamuseum.com that you would like to be entered into the drawing. The winner will be notified Wednesday, May 22, 2019. The winner can pick-up their LP at the Museum Tuesday-Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Good luck!
Mark your calendars and join us for the opening of Actual Reality, a new exhibit created by local artists Carlos Grasso and Peter Fox. The opening reception will take place Friday, June 1, 2019 from 6 p.m.—8 p.m. at the Museum of Ventura County.
The exhibit challenges the viewer to experience what is real and not real through a series of tangible, three-dimensional art that is intended to stimulate and provoke an appreciation for reality.
Grasso and Fox both utilize discarded objects as ingredients in their art. Grasso considers a rusty sheet of metal, a torn piece of canvas or a scrap of wood, the ‘blood and bones’ of his creations. Fox adds the element of humor to help us navigate the ‘complex absurdity of … existence’.

Natural Conditions investigates the perceived world–whether emotional, physical, psychological or imaginative. Each artist contributes their unique perspective of the environment around them through various media, both traditional and digital. Cal Lutheran presents a compilation of student work from the Art Department of the graduating class of 2019, including artists Quinn Rosenblatt, Donaldo Lopez, Breann Carlucci, Johannah Peterson, Hallie Maxwell, and Michelle Handal.
Quinn Rosenblatt is an abstract 2D artist from Westlake Village, CA. She uses color and texture to express emotions such as passion, love, fear, and gratitude. Donaldo Lopez, a printmaker and poet from Santa Maria, CA, voices his emotional exploration of nature through the use of depictions of allegorical animals. Breann Carlucci, from Santa Clarita, CA, is an artist exploring Surrealism through the mediums of graphite and oil painting. She constructs a world of a divergent reality that engages the viewer in a unique experience–creating a higher sense of consciousness.
Natural Conditions is on view April 26—May 18 at the William Rolland Gallery of Fine Art.
Major funding for these programs is made possible by the City of
San Buenaventura, the County of Ventura and private and community donors.
