Self-taught on his family’s guitar and harmonica at the age of 13, Fontenot would turn to the accordion later in life. As jobs dried up in Louisiana in the mid-1950’s, Fontenot migrated to Los Angeles and was soon working with such legendary artists as Joe Simien, Wilfred Latour and Ambrose “Sweet Potato” Sam. Today, Fontenot carries on the Creole tradition of sharing the memories and sounds of his Louisiana roots through music.
