VUSD Districtwide Student Art Show Opening Reception

The World’s Most Famous Movie Ranch:
The Story of Ray “Crash” Corrigan
and Corriganville
Did you know that Ventura County once hosted its own version of Knott’s Berry Farm? The ranch served as both a popular amusement park and filming location. Owned and run by the colorful stuntman Western actor “Crash” Corrigan, the park offered a generation of Californians Western-theme entertainments until it was sold in the late 1960s. The site is now a public park that includes several hiking trails where numerous Westerns were filmed.

Water witching is centuries old. The first written references date to 16th-century Europe. The practice of dowsing was commonplace in the late 1800s in Simi Valley when new settlers needed to find a reliable source of water. Almost everyone gave it a try, but few had Grandpa Stones’ touch.

Exhibition Launch Festival
Saturday, June 4th from 11am–8pm
at Studio Channel Islands

The launch of a month-long celebration of contemporary Chinese art, the program will begin with family workshops, including fan painting, calligraphy, and dance, from 11am to 1pm. At 1pm, there will be performances of traditional Chinese songs, music, and dance.
The evening will conclude with a performance of Echoes of Nature by Dr. Nan Liu and Dr. Haigiong Deng.

Arte Para la Gente explores artist Margaret Garcia’s vast work that captures and encapsulates the culture, family, and urban life. Over the past four decades, Margaret Garcia has been a leader in the L.A. Chicano Art Movement, championing women, the community, and individuals marginalized by society. Her most recent works, many shown here for the first time, were painted in Ventura County.
