| It’s been a tough couple of weeks in our corner of the world. As the Thomas Fire rages on in Santa Barbara, we are mindful of the damage it has already caused in Ventura, Santa Paula, Ojai, and Carpinteria. The fire has affected our entire community, and MCASB was not immune to that disruption. Due to air quality issues and for the safety of the invaluable Guatemalan artwork in our care, we have made the difficult decision to keep the Museum closed for the remainder of our current exhibition, Guatemala from 33,000 km: Contemporary Art, 1960 – Present (including the galleries at Community Arts Workshop and the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art). This is certainly not the way we hoped to end such a groundbreaking exhibition, but we’re determined not to let it mar the incredible impact this exhibition, our most-attended exhibition ever, has had. We are endlessly grateful to the many people who supported this exhibition: artists, advisors, donors, patrons, community members, staff, and countless others. Thank you for your dedication to supporting MCASB in our mission of advancing creativity and inspiring critical thinking through meaningful engagement with the art of our time.
Make sure to mark your calendars for January 28, 2018, when we will reopen with two new exhibitions, Cecily Brown: Rehearsal and Midori Hirose: Of The Unicorn (and the Sundowner Kids). In the meantime, stay safe and have a wonderful holiday season! |
