MOORPARK — Moorpark College Nursing Science program faculty members diligently prepare their graduates to enter the challenging and rewarding field of nursing. As proof of the students’ preparedness, the Fall 2019 class had a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) exam. The national average pass rate for first-time test-takers is 83.5 percent.

“We are incredibly proud of our students,” said Interim President Julius Sokenu. “Nursing is ever-present in the news right now with COVID-19, and it’s fulfilling to know that our graduates will continue to provide high-quality care even after the pandemic is over.”

A total of 36 students from the Fall 2019 class sat for the exam, and all were first-time test takers. The Moorpark College Nursing Science program pass rate has been above 90 percent every year since the 2014-2015 school year. For 2018-2019, the program reported a 95 percent pass rate.

“Our nursing program faculty has consistently provided our students with the latest nursing best practices,” said Board Chair Bernardo M. Perez. “Our nursing students are heroes in the making!”

This comprehensive NCLEX exam touches on many nursing concepts and is only open to students who have completed an approved nursing program. The test focuses on four categories: safe and effective care environment, health promotion and maintenance, psychosocial integrity, and physiological integrity.
