May 3 — Season Finale of Latino Thought Makers to Honor Remarkable Women at Oxnard College

Interview Series to Feature Pilar Marrero (La Opinion), Patty Rodriguez (On Air with Ryan Seacrest) and Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio, Ph.D. (The Buckley School)

OXNARD — In collaboration with Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) and Oxnard College, Rick Najera’s Latino Thought Makers will present a special season finale, ‘Women Who Rule’ Awards on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Oxnard College’s Performing Arts Center, 4000 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard, CA.  

Admission to the special event is free and open to the public with registration on EventBrite.com.

Special guests include Pilar Marrero (La Opinion), Patty Rodriguez (On Air with Ryan Seacrest) and Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio, Ph.D. (The Buckley School).

Pilar Marrero is a bilingual journalist, author and world traveler with a long experience in covering social and political issues of the Latino community in the United States.  

She is one of the foremost experts on immigration politics in the U.S. media world and has covered the issue extensively over the years as a reporter.

Pilar was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to the U.S. in 1986. 

 

Patty Rodriguez

Patty Rodriguez is a multi-faceted entrepreneur, senior producer, co-founder and author of the bilingual children’s books, Lil Libros.

She is also the founder of MALA by Patty Rodriguez Jewelry line and was responsible for the successful implementation of MAC Selena by MAC Cosmetics.

Patty is a dedicated philanthropist and community role model. Born in Los Angeles to Mexican immigrant parents and raised in Lynwood, CA , she’s given a voice of hope to the youth. She is the recipient of numerous awards. 

 

Dr. Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio earned her Doctorate in Genetics from the California Institute of Technology. She is a mentor to students as a science educator and a FIRST robotics coach while maintaining her research ties with Caltech. Dr. Gonzalez is also co-founder and co-director of non-profit organization, GoLD Initiative (Gift over Learning Differences Initiative) which provides after school STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) enrichment programs for youth. Dr. Gonzalez was born and raised in South Bronx, New York and is a wife, mother, amateur magician and astronaut applicant. She is a Science Educator at The Buckley School, STEAM director, and Science department co-Chair.

Latino Thought Makers is a nationally recognized live interview stage series created, executive produced and hosted by comedian and award-winning writer-director-playwright-author Rick Najera. The show is geared toward Hispanic Serving Institutions and showcases the successes and career paths of prominent Latinos in Hollywood. Previous high-profile guests have included Edward James Olmos, Dolores Huerta, Danny Trejo, Josefina Lopez, Cheech Marin, Luis Guzman, Esai Morales, Emilio Rivera, Lisa Vidal, Marco Antonio Regil, Myrka Dellanos, Bianca Marroquin, the family of Cesar Chavez and more. The show is a mentorship and leadership platform to educate and inspire positive dialogue and growth. 

Rick Najera’s Latino Thought Makers: Women Who Rule Awards will take place on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at Oxnard College’s Performing Arts Center, 4000 S. Rose Ave, Oxnard, CA 93033. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are FREE and the event is family friendly and open to the public with registration on EVENTBRITE. Parking is FREE in Lot H on night of event only. A $5 donation is suggested to benefit the Oxnard College Foundation supporting student scholarships in the arts.
