SANTA PAULA —  Saturday, May 12, 2018, is World Collage Day and the Santa Paula Art Museum is celebrating with a talk and demo by Fillmore collage artist Karen Browdy. Browdy’s work is definitely not your grandmother’s collage! Equal parts memory, curiosity, experiment and instinct, collage is a versatile and user-friendly medium with endless potential for creative expression. Browdy will demonstrate how she uses color, line, shape and texture to construct a composition. Guests will see how a palette of papers takes shape as an abstract art piece. The talk begins at 2:00 p.m. Admission to the talk is included with regular museum admission, which is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for students and museum members.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Karen Browdy came to California in 1969. After careers in education and graphic design, Karen’s interests turned to fine art; first calligraphy and watercolor, and then collage, mixed media and assemblage. Beginning in 1999, Browdy was an adjunct instructor on the art faculty of Santa Barbara City College’s Continuing Education Division. Now she holds private workshops and classes in her Fillmore and Ventura studios, as well as other locations throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. In fact, Karen will be teaching a course this summer at the Santa Paula Art Museum’s newly renovated Cole Creativity Center.
